No beef in Jaipur hotel samples, clarifies FSL

The Forensic Science Laboratory examining a meat sample taken from a Jaipur hotel has ruled out that it is beef.

Hotel Hayat Rabbani was sealed on March 19 after more than 150 cow vigilantes protested outside its premises and beat up the staff, accusing them of cooking and serving beef.  Police have now admitted that the sample taken from the hotel on March 19 was not beef.  “It was not beef,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Ashok Gupta confirmed.

Nayeem Rabbani, who owns the hotel, has asked the police to act on the report and unseal the eatery. “I tried convincing the police and the (local) administration, but they were in no mood to listen. I have suffered huge losses in the past two months,” Rabbani said.  It has been 10 days since a lower court asked the Jaipur Municipal Corporation to unseal the hotel in a week.

Rabbani has also demanded action against self-styled Sadhvi Kamal Didi from the Mahila Gauraksha Dal for creating a ruckus and attacking the hotel staff. “She stormed into the hotel with her supporters and attacked my staff,” he said.

“This is merely an attempt at saffronisation,” he charged. Kamal, for her part, has also lodged a complaint against the hotel at the Sindhi Camp police station under IPC Section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).

On the midnight of March 19, 150 cow vigilantes had blockaded Hayat Rabbani, located near the Jaipur bus terminus. The vigilantes, led by Kamal Didi, protested outside the hotel for two days, alleging it served beef, which is banned in Rajasthan.
