Sonia progressing well; to be discharged soon

Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who was admitted to a private hospital here on Sunday following food poisoning, is stable, doctors at the hospital said.

Mrs Gandhi, 70, is expected to be discharged from the hospital in a day or two, D S Rana, Chairman of the Board of Management, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said in a statement here on Thursday.

“The health condition of Mrs Sonia Gandhi who was admitted on Sunday, 7th May 2017, for food poisoning is stable. She is progressing well and may be discharged in a day or two,” Rana said.

Gandhi has kept herself abreast about the political developments from hospital bed. She even spoke to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from the hospital and decided to meet her early next week to discuss the presidential elections.

Mahatma Gandhi's grandson Gopal Krishna Gandhi, Congress leader Meira Kumar, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and former JD(U) President Sharad Yadav are being talked about as possible nominees of the opposition to take on the official candidate to be put up by the Modi government.
