BJP legislator's 'photo-stunt' leaves bulls and owner high and dry

A desire on the part of a BJP legislator to steal the limelight in the media left a pair of bulls and its owner, a poor and rustic person, high and dry in the state capital.

Jawahar Lal Rajput, the BJP MLA from Garuatha assembly constituency in Jhansi district, turned the centre of attraction, when he reached the assembly building to attend the inaugural session of the house on Monday riding a bullock cart.

As Rajput entered the vidhan bhavan, the photo journalists and camera persons of the TV channel rushed to shoot the MLA sitting on the bullock cart.

The MLA, after the photo shoot, went inside the building to attend the session. Rajput's supporters also vanished from the spot shortly thereafter.

A perplexed Ram Lakhan, who had traveled all the way from Jhansi, around 300 kilometres away, in his bullock cart, and was expecting to be paid by the MLA or his supporters, was escorted out of the building by the security personnel.

''I was told to bring the bullock cart here for some vidhayakji (MLA)...I do not know him....nor do I have his contact number...I have not been paid anything,'' Ram Lakhan, who parked his bullock cart near the state BJP headquarters situated in front of the vidhan bhavan building, said.

He said that he did not have any money to either feed his two bulls or have food himself. ''I had brought raw food items from my village which I cooked and ate during the trip to the state capital...now I have nothing,'' he added.

It later turned out that Rajput had embarked on the bullock cart barely a few metres away from the assembly building. Till that point he had traveled by an SUV. ''I wanted to highlight the problems of the farmers...and so I came here on bullock cart,'' he told the reporters.
