'Kanaja' bereft of knowledge

Karnataka Knowledge Commission launched the portal to offer information on various subjects in Kannada.

The Yeddyurappa government announced Rs two crore for the project in its 2009-10 budget. The website was officially launched by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on December 4, 2009. And, updating of the information to the portal has stopped since then. A cursory visit to the portal (http://kanaja.in/) is enough to conclude that it does not carry information on all subjects enlisted. Except a few pages related to Kannada literature, sports, art and science, the website does not provide information on other subjects. All these files were last revised in December 2009.

Dr M K Sridhar, Commission member-secretary and project manager, said the web portal has been handled all these days by the commission staff. The commission has decided to hand it over to an agency from April 1.

“A private agency, supported by an editorial committee, will handle the portal. A full-fledged team will be put in place to update the portal regularly and initiate public interaction,” he said.
