They say that colours speak all languages. But it may surprise you to know that certain hues can also inspire emotions like uneasiness and insecurity. If you’ve noticed yourself leaning toward certain colours and shying away from others, it probably has a lot to do with your personality and less to do with your sense of style. What one colour means to someone may have a completely different meaning for another person.

Here’s a guide to what the colour of your clothing may be saying about you (with or without your knowledge):

Blue colours: Blue soothes and cools. When you wear blue, you’re broadcasting creativity, positivity, peace and loyalty. You’re saying that you’ve decided to live by your own rules.

Brown colours: When you wear brown, you’re representing all things solid and grounded such as the colour of the earth. Brown is the colour that people associate with someone who’s stable, smart, and dependable.

Grey shades: Wearing grey can wash you out, and make you seem indifferent, depressed and apathetic. It can also seem suppressive and give off the impression of a lack of confidence.

Silver colours:  If you wear metallic, you’re letting the world know that you aren’t shy and that you’re adventurous, up for anything, and hip. Not everybody can wear metallic; it reflects the light, which will make you look older.

Black colours: Black symbolizes extremes and is a colour of strength, power, sophistication, elegance and authority.

Red colours:  If you want to stand out in a crowd and grab the spotlight, wear red. It’s the colour of energy and is the symbol of life. Red is also the colour of sensuality, aggression, passion and boldness.

Orange colours: Orange is known as the colour that makes new possibilities happen. It’s creative, enthusiastic, and is associated with good times, warmth and ambition.

Pink colours: Pink is associated with femininity and is the colour of unconditional love. It is also known to soothe out aggression.

Purple colours:  If you want to convey that you’re rich — both in possessions and spirituality — then wear purple. Purple shows that you have a rich inner life, are intuitive, artistic and creative. It also implies that you generally have great instincts about people.

Yellow colours:  It’s logical, happy, cheerful, and optimistic. It has the power to bring out creativity, but can be overpowering if used too much. It’s a good colour to wear when you need that added boost to finish a work project or ace those exams.

Green colours:  Nature and money are green and both things are very important. Green is a calming colour and is associated with generosity, healing and a rejuvenated state of mind.

White shades: When you put on a white shirt or skirt, you feel as if you’re starting the day with a clean slate. White is the colour of balance, harmony, purity, and courage.

The colour of the clothing we wear tells the world and ourselves a little bit about us. We can use those colours to feel better and brighter. Once you
realise this, you’ll have a secret method to feeling good about yourself and your day, even if that wasn’t the way it started out.
