Stating that a change of guard would not help in restoring normalcy in Kashmir, Opposition National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah on Thursday pitched for governor’s rule.

“Changing horses midway won’t help. The government has become unpopular and has lost the faith and support of the people, as was seen a couple of days ago when women stormed out of a government function raising slogans,” the former Union minister told reporters here.

Amid speculation that the BJP wants to replace Mehbooba Mufti with someone from within the party, Abdullah said, “Such a step would not help restore peace in the Valley as the alliance (PDP-BJP) in its entirety has failed.”

Abdullah said the imposition of governor’s rule is not an ideal solution. “But in the present circumstances it is the only plausible option”, the NC chief added.
