Event threw up hidden problems, says MLA

There are many problems in Yeshwantpur constituency which I was also not aware of, said MLA S T Somashekar, expressing gratitude to DH and Prajavani for holding ‘Janaspandana – Citizens For Change’ programme.

Addressing the gathering, Somashekar said the programme will help him solve the problems faced by his electorate. He admitted there was a severe water crisis in his ward as the water table had gone down to 1,400 feet in certain areas. He was hopeful that the situation would improve once Cauvery water was made available. He said drain-laying work would be completed by October. The MLA said he will work for upgrade of the police outpost to improve the law and order in Doddabidarakallu and Herohalli.  He said drug peddling in Ullala had grown menacingly, due to which murders too were taking place.

“We will deal with drug peddlers with an iron hand. Criminals will not have a free run in my constituency,” the MLA promised. Somashekar assured the urban poor occupying government land that their sites will be regularised.

He said, “The government will regularise sites measuring 600 sq ft or less, by collecting Rs 5,000 per site from occupants belonging to general category and Rs 2,500 from those belonging to SC/ST communities. We have also decided to regularise sites measuring 1,200 sq ft, by charging Rs 10,000 from general category and Rs 5,000 from SC/ST communities.” He said under a state government scheme aided by the Centre, houses will be built for urban poor on 170 acres.
