Bangalore University launches Sakala services

Last Updated 24 May 2017, 20:59 IST

Students of Bangalore University will no longer have to wait for a year, until their convocation, to get their degree certificates.

With the introduction of Sakala services by the varsity, students will be able to obtain provisional degree certificates within two days of applying for it. Registrar (Evaluation) of BU, Shankar Reddy, said that the time-bound examination services will also include three others — migration certificates, official transcripts and PhD results.

“If students have to apply for jobs, they can do so using the provisional degree. Often employers and higher education institutions ask for official transcripts from the student’s university to ensure that their degree is genuine. This will also be provided in a speedy manner,” Reddy said.

Earlier, after the viva-voce, PhD candidates would have to wait for two to six months to get their results. Now, this wait and uncertainty is also cut short.  “All these service requests will be completed within two days of giving us the application. If there is proof of emergency, we can even issue it on the same day,” Reddy said.

Full-scale

The university tried the Sakala services on a trial basis in April and have now launched them in full-scale. In spite of having insufficient staff, Reddy assured that all requests will be completed in the stipulated time as he has given strict instructions.

The Sakala services will also benefit alumni of the university. Anyone who has graduated between 1964 and 1985 can get duplicate marks card, duplicate degree certificate, consolidated marks card or a correction in their name on the certificate, within six days of applying for it. Graduates of 1985 to 2000 will get these services in five days, graduates of 2000 to 2010 in four days and after 2010, in three days.

Tamper-proof marks cards

The varsity will be getting tamper-proof, water-resistant, high-quality marks cards from the next academic year. These marks cards will have nine security features and will be of 205 GSM paper quality. Registrar (Evaluation) Shankar Reddy said that the varsity was among the 17 universities in the state to receive orders from the higher education department to adopt these high-quality marks cards, in order to bring uniformity. The university has already placed an order with Mysore Sales International Limited.
