Last Updated 27 May 2017, 15:30 IST

Soaring temperature and increasing humidity in the atmosphere caused stuffy weather in the city on Friday afternoon.

According to officials at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperatures will soar in the afternoons and it will be followed by thundershowers in the evening.

The maximum temperature recorded at 2.30 pm was 32.3 degrees Celsius and at 5.30 pm it was 33.1 degrees Celsius. But people felt uneasy because humidity was high at 52%, MeT officials said.

The maximum temperatures recorded at HAL and Kempegowda International Airport was 33.2 degrees Celsius, with humidity of 49% and 53% respectively.

Moisture in air

“People are feeling uncomfortable because of the presence of moisture in the air and less rainfall. This is because of the upper air cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal. The winds are blowing in the north easterly direction. All these phenomena are part of the pre-monsoon season,” said Sunder M Metri, IMD-Bengaluru director-in-charge.

He said IMD-Delhi has predicted that south west monsoon will set in by May 30 or 31 and till then, these weather conditions will prevail.
