Singer Harshi Mad never thought she would take up singing as a career. However, winning the Indian Idol in the UK changed all that. She came to India soon after and attained great success in shows like ‘Indian Idol 3’ and ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’.

Harshi has sung songs like ‘Raat Saturday Ki Hai’ with Mika and ‘Jagger Bomb’ featuring cricketer Dwayne Bravo and Ankit Tiwari for ‘Tum Bin 2’. She recently released her latest single ‘Wada Jo Kia’. In a chat with Anushree Agarwal, Harshi talks about her songs, what she enjoys about her profession and more.

Tell us about your new single ‘Wada Jo Kia’.
It released in India when I was in the US. I sung it to the public there at clubs, shows and concerts. It’s also got about five million views on YouTube in two weeks so I think it’s doing really well.

How was the experience of working with Dwayne Bravo for the song?
He’s really nice. We were performing together on stage as part of the scene and he asked me to show some Indian moves. He even did some ‘bhangra’ and was enjoying the song and having fun on the sets.

You’ve also starred in the film ‘Holiday’ with Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha. How was it?
It was my first experience of acting and to be performing against Sonakshi was really scary. I was nervous but she was really comforting. And Akshay Kumar is drop dead gorgeous in person too!

We hear you can sing in many Indian languages...
When I tour across India, people at my shows request me to sing a song in their regional language. I have sung in Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, English, Bengali, Marathi and Tamil.

One of your most memorable concerts...
It was the one with Sonu Nigam in Surat last year. There were about one lakh people in the audience and they kept screaming for more. It was an amazing show.

Three things you love about your profession...
Travelling, trying out different foods and meeting many amazing people and hearing their experiences.

Three things you always carry in your purse...
My lip gloss, my phone and my charger.

You’re a fitness freak...
I have a personal trainer and I love doing Zumba. In fact, I’ve come up with a song about squats with Aditya Narain. The song is also perfect for Zumba.

What’s in the pipeline?
There’s another romantic song coming out with someone really famous. Then there are two movie songs coming out really soon as well.
