City could break all-time record for May rainfall

The city received 39.9 mm of rainfall on Sunday night, bringing the total amount of rain this month to 241.3 mm. The city has received 319 mm of rainfall between March 1 and May 28.

HAL airport and Kempegowda International Airport recorded 39.6 mm and 19 mm rainfall, respectively. The maximum wind speed in the city was 44 kmph while it was 84 kmph at HAL airport. The city could well break the all-time rainfall record for May. It had received a whopping 287.1 mm of rainfall in May 1957. The city had received 178.4 mm of rainfall in May 2015.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city will experience thundershowers coupled with strong winds over the next two or three days. Thundershower is a common phenomenon of pre-monsoon rainfall and it will continue until the rainy season arrives, an IMD official said.
