The official, Varada Iyengar, was accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a transport agent Gururaja Shenoy. Shenoy, a transport agent had provided vehicles to the department on contract.
However, the payment was due for him. The official had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to clear the pending bill. Lokayukta Inspector Udaya Nayak and other officials conducted the raid.
House burgled
Some unidentified miscreants gained entry into a house and decamped with 8 pawan gold and Rs 8,000 cash at Parenki in Madanthyar of Belthangady. The house belongs to Balakrishna. They gained entry into the house by removing the tiles of the house. A case has been registered.
Pedestrian killed
A pedestrian was killed when a tempo knocked him down near Industrial Area at Kolnadu in Mangalore taluk on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Veerabhadra. A case has been registered.
