BTC meeting to decide on racing schedule

Last Updated 31 May 2017, 19:07 IST
With the government yet to grant the licence, the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) committee members will hold a meeting on Thursday to take a call on the races scheduled this month.

“We aren’t still thinking about postponing the races as we are confident of the government granting us the licence. We cannot confirm if the racing will be conducted as per the schedule and the committee members will meet on Thursday to decide on our next course of action,” said a BTC committee member on Wednesday.

There were reports that the Law Department had cleared the licence but a government official said no decision had been taken on the matter yet.

“Once the Law Department clears it, it becomes the responsibility of the finance department to send it to the chief minister, who has to approve it. BTC officials have made regular attempts to hold a meeting with the chief minister. The club hasn’t done anything wrong and we are confident that the government will realise it. The chief minister was busy with the KPCC meeting and then he was travelling on official work,” the member explained.

With the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) seized with an enquiry over the state of affairs at the club, the government had kept the licence in abeyance, causing uncertainty over the races. The next racing at the BTC is scheduled on June 3.
