VTU postpones exams over re-evaluation mess

Last Updated 01 June 2017, 19:35 IST

An inordinate delay in the re-evaluation of answer scripts has forced the Visvesvaraya Technological University to put off its BE exams.

Exams for all semesters, including the final one, have been rescheduled, it said on Thursday. Final year BE exams, schedued to begin on June 5, will now begin on June 12. The exams for other semesters will begin on June 23.

A detailed time table will be out on Friday. The university has decided to complete all exams — undergraduate, post-graduate, theory, practical and viva voce — by July 31.

The decision was prompted by angry students demanding to know how the university could conduct exams when results of previous semesters had not been finalised. The VTU is yet to complete re-evaluation in connection with exams held between December 2016 and January 2017.

It has announced results in all regions except Bengaluru, where results for the seventh and eighth semesters are likely to be out on Friday.

Results of other semesters will be announced by June 10, officials said. Meanwhile, vice-chancellor Karisiddappa admitted to a total planning disaster. Addressing reporters, he said the VTU had taken the exam process online in 2010, and outsourced work related to it.

“I ended outsourcing following widespread complaints... The VTU formed its own committee to complete the examination process,” he said, explaining that this had resulted in work falling behind schedule.
