HC seeks status report on civic infrastructure

Last Updated 02 June 2017, 19:11 IST

The High Court of Karnataka on Friday directed the state government to submit a status report about pothole filling, barricading storm water drains and removing encroachments along storm water drains at the next hearing on June 16.

The court was hearing a PIL filed by Namma Bengaluru Foundation on the lack of infrastructure in the city due to which children were getting washed away in drains and motorists were dying due to potholes.

The PIL has sought directions to the Urban Development Department and the commissioner of the BBMP to prepare a comprehensive, time-bound action plan for safety and security for civic facilities like storm water drains.

The petition also sought directives to the state government to prosecute negligent public officials, whose failure to carry out their statutory duties results in loss of life and limb.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice P S Dinesh Kumar granted the government time till June 16 to file the status report.
