You can check call quality through app

Last Updated 05 June 2017, 18:24 IST
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Monday launched three new apps, including TRAI MyCall that enables subscribers to rate the quality of a phone call.

The MyCall Android app will help mobile-users to rate the call quality in real-time, from one star to five star, five being the highest. Mobile-users have to download the apps. End of every call, the app will ask the caller to rate it. The caller simply needs to select the rating in the form of stars and indicate if the calls were made in indoor, outdoor or while travelling. The caller can also provide additional details such as noise or audio delay, or mark a call drop if callers do not know how a call got terminated.

“The authority will publish the rating of calls of every telecom company separately on the Trai website regularly. This will help the telecom service providers to improve their call quality,” Trai Chairman R S Sharma told reporters after launching the apps.
This app was launched by the Trai to nudge the telecom operators to improve call quality and address the call drop problem.

Besides, the regulator also upgraded its ‘Do Not Disturb’ and ‘MySpeed’ apps with new features.

The new version of the Do Not Disturb app comes with a spam detection engine for SMS, and marks the message as spam. The app will identify senders and warns them against sending further messages. The apps’ new version will also come with update on the action taken on a user’s complaint, Sharma said.

At present, there is a framework for DND registry that allows telecom subscribers to block unwanted communication from telemarketers.

The Trai also rolled out an update to its MySpeed app, which allows customers to measure 3G/4G data speeds and send the results to the regulator.
