A dark grey coloured object, resembling an uneven rock, which appears to be a meteorite has fallen from the sky in an open field in the outskirts of Jaipur.

The mysterious rock created panic in the Bhankrota area of Jaipur.  Banshi Bhagra, the owner of the field situated at Mukundpura informed the Bhankhrora Police Station after he and locals spotted a rock like object on Tuesday morning. Banshi told media, "We have never seen such kind of object. Nearby villagers got scared and then we jointly decided to inform the police."

SHO of Bhankhrora Police Station Hemendra Sharma who reached the spot said, “It seems the object fell at a great speed as it has created a small crater on the ground. We informed Geological Survey of India and Forensic Science Laboratory officials for further investigation."

The teams of Geological Survey of India and Forensic Science Laboratory officials also visited the spot and took samples. They called it a rare meteorite as it has survived till it reached earth. According to geologists, most of the time they fall in the sea.  Sandip Bhattacharaya , Assistant Director, B.M.Birla Planetarium one of the members of the team told DH, "It is a natural process and the rock looks like a meteorite. It's a debris, most of which has been utilised by other planets. Usually, this debris is wandering around Sun, Mars and Jupiter, they fall due to the gravitational pull. However, after the forensic examination, we will confirm it. Rock is weighing around 6 kg, its dark grey coloured with 6-inch diameter."
