India, Bangla clash in semis

Last Updated 12 June 2017, 19:58 IST

Pakistan held their nerve in a now-on and now-off chase to defeat Sri Lanka by  three wickets in the final Group ‘B’ game at Cardiff on Monday to complete the semifinal line-up of the Champions Trophy.

With Pakistan finishing second behind India in Group B, Virat Kohli’s men are now confirmed to meet Bangladesh, who had finished second in Group A, in the second semifinal on June 15 in Birmingham.

Chasing what appeared a modest target (237 from 50 overs) at one stage, Pakistan slipped to 167 for seven before skipper Sarfraz Ahmed guided them past the victory line.

Pakistan will now clash against formidable England who, with an all-win record, were the first to seal the semifinal spot from Group A. Bangladesh had pulled off a stunning five-wicket win over New Zealand in their final game and Australia’s defeat to England on Saturday meant the Tigers advanced to the last-four stage as the second team from Group ‘A’.
