A section of senior ministers in the Siddaramaiah Cabinet is learnt to have expressed dissatisfaction with the way the ruling party handled the move to remove D H Shankaramurthy from the post of Legislative Council Chairman.

The ruling Congress faced immense embarrassment in the Council as its plan to remove the Chairman backfired.

These ministers are learnt to have blamed party MLCs V S Ugrappa and H M Revanna, who are
considered close aides of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The ministers, it is said, took Ugrappa to task and accused him of misleading the chief minister on the Council Chairman’s issue. KPCC president G Parameshwara and other senior party leaders were not taken into confidence before submitting a notice to the Council secretariat seeking to move a resolution to remove the Chairman. It was done without proper planning, the ministers are learnt to have told Ugrappa.
When contacted, Ugrappa said: “It is not that the Congress wanted the Chairman’s post. We had even offered the post to the JD(S). Still, it went with the BJP, which is surprising.”

When asked whether the chief minister was involved in the process of holding talks with the JD(S), Ugrappa said no effort was made, without the knowledge of Siddaramaiah.
