Murder accused shot in leg by DySP

A murder accused was shot in the leg and injured by the Anekal police, when he tried to attack a constable in a bid to escape.

Police had launched a manhunt for Manjunath alias Mental Manja (34), a resident of Chintala Madivala in Anekal taluk, who had hacked cab driver Muniraju to death near a supermarket in Bommasandra on Saturday night.

Following a tipoff, a team led by DySP S K Umesh intercepted Manjunath on his way to Tulips Resort on Bannerghatta Road. Manjunath tried to escape on seeing the police, but lost balance and fell off the bike. He took a dagger and tried to attack constable Prasad.

When Manjunath continued to ignore the warnings, the DySP shot at him and injured him.
