Question paper leak accused withdraws bail application

Last Updated 29 June 2017, 20:39 IST

The counsel representing Kumaraswamy, the main accused in the II PUC Chemistry question paper leak scam, has withdrawn his bail application after the court refused to entertain it.

Justice Rathnakala refused to grant bail as there were serious observations made by a single judge in another petition where Kumaraswamy had sought quashing of proceedings against him. He was earlier denied bail on the ground that he was booked under the provisions of the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act, 2000.

Kumaraswamy had contended that the investigation into the scam has been completed and the charge sheet has also been filed. As some of the other accused in the scam have been granted bail, he too was liable to be released from prison, he contended. The prosecution however argued against the release of Kumaraswamy on bail stating that there were serious allegations against him.
