Firm without permit asked to shut, KSPCB tells HC

Last Updated 30 June 2017, 21:03 IST

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) on Friday informed the High Court of Karnataka that a private company on Bannerghatta Road was issued closure notice as it did not have necessary permits to operate.

KSPCB counsel Gururaj Joshi, submitting documents pertaining to the violation and absence of consent orders, said that even before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had ordered KSPCB to close down industries polluting the lake, the Board had issued several showcause notices to Shahi Exports Pvt Ltd.

The company had moved the court seeking quashing of the closure notice issued to it by KSPCB following the NGT order. KSPCB had issued notices on the directions of the NGT which directed them to close down all industries which were letting out untreated effluents into Bellandur lake. The petitioner also challenged the NGT order.

A division bench, comprising Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice P S Dinesh Kumar, adjourned the hearing to July 4 after the counsel for the petitioner sought time.
