JOIN USKathputliyaan Theatre Group will be presenting ‘Tipu Sultan Ke Khwaab’ on July 14, 7 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Malleswaram. The play is written by Girish Karnad and directed by Zafer Mohiuddin.
‘Tipu Sultan ke Khwaab’ examines the inner life of this warrior and political visionary. The English version of this play was commissioned by the BBC and broadcast in Britain on the 50th anniversary of Indian independence.
This play presents Tipu Sultan in a different perspective — that of independent India and rescues him from distorted colonial perceptions. More importantly, the play is a collective sense of reclamation of history.
This play was earlier staged in English as well as Kannada by different theatre groups but this is the first time an attempt is being made to stage in Hindi and Urdu. It is produced on a large scale with 25 actors on stage with period costumes, realistic makeup and specially designed props with an intricate light and sound design. It is truly a theatrical extravaganza to behold. Entry passes will be given at the venue half an hour before the play.
