Your outfit is charming, the makeup is gorgeous and all the accessories are in place. But don‘t forget, looking fashionable for any occasion also includes having a mane that can make heads turn! Fashionistas in the city talk about the varied styles that young girls are trying out in recent times.

Inspirations from all around are influencing the latest hairstyles today. While traditional people usually follow Bollywood styles with long-layered looks, there are the experimental ones who make bold moves and get cutting-edge styles inspired by Western style icons like Scarlett Johansson, Katy Perry and Cara Delevigne.

“The undercut, faux hawks and the edgy pixie hairstyle are being experimented with. People are increasingly becoming aware that coloured hair fades faster with the water here. However, those who are interested are opting for bold choices, with the top three being red, blue and purple,” says Rohit from ‘Nomad Haircuts’. He adds that the multi-coloured hair look is now passe and the monochromatic palette
is in.

It was young sportstars who inspired many young men to go for the undercut hairstyle and now even young women are taking the undercut route.

“The undercut hairstyle coupled with a hair tattoo is a popular choice among youngsters now. Variations of the bob like the undercut, apart from the classic, are hot favourites as always,” says hair stylist Alice Li.

While some are going for the undercut on the sides, others are going for the nape. “In the undercut, the lines or patterns are worked with as hair tattoos,” she says. The graduated, layered and one-length bob are the other safe options women like playing around with.

“Another bold style is the low fade-out style, which is thicker on top and fades out at the nape,” says Alice.

The other trends this season are braids and messy waves, while some are opting for the mid-length lob, observes Naina Gunjikar, a stylist with ‚High Gloss‘, Lavelle Road.

“People’s hairstyles are now inspired from varied themes like unicorns, mermaids and smurfs. Their colour palette is inspired from galaxies, sunsets, forests and sandy beaches,” she details.

Straight or smoothened hair is the go-to option for those with frizzy hair, says makeup artist and hair stylist Ambreen Vikhar.

“The short shoulder-length hairstyle with light waves is in now. The straight shoulder-length or blunt bob is a consistent hit as it highlights the frame of the person‘s face,” she says.

In hair colours, ombre and balayage are still in vogue, she adds. “People are also experimenting with pinks and purples and even rose golds.” Ambreen points out that hair extensions are another addition to the world of hair styling, where people with really short hair are opting for clip-on hair extensions.
