Congress City Municipal Council member Nandakumar has said the party members are mulling over filing a defamation case against BJP CMC member K S Ramesh for maligning the image of CMC President Kaveramma Somanna.

Briefing media persons here on Friday, Nandakumar said, “Ramesh, who is also standing committee president, has been attempting to fire a woman working in IT section of the CMC. When the attempt failed, he spread the message on an obscene footage being aired on a television set on various schemes at the City Municipal Council premises in Madikeri. As the woman from the IT section of the CMC was heading the section, vice president T S Prakash and Ramesh conspired to get her ousted from the CMC through the allegations.”

Further, Nandakumar said, “We have discussed the issue with Deputy Commissioner Richard Vincent D’Souza and Superintendent of Police P Rajendra Prasad. A complaint has been filed with cyber crime police and the report is likely to be received within 15 days.”

He said, “Prakash and Ramesh had started harassing the employees on the pretext of furnishing details only to Kaveramma and Chummi Devaiah. Dejected by the harassment, Assistant Engineer Arun has sought for transfer. In fact, he was threatened in the meeting itself.”

He also accused the members of making an attempt to tarnish the image of the CMC president by showing that she is not responding to the illegality by the contractors. “After the cyber crime police submit the report on the alleged obscene footage, the woman herself will file a case against Prakash and Ramesh on charges of threat and harassment. We are also seeking legal opinion on filing a defamation case condemning the statements issued against the CMC President,” he clarified.

Nandakumar said that there is a need to conduct a probe into the matter to bring out the truth. CMC President Kaveramma Somanna said, “The employees of the CMC have stated that no obscene footage was aired on the television set on July 5. K S Ramesh has levelled false allegations to malign the image of the CMC.”
