Plaint against sub-standard work

Last Updated 06 April 2010, 18:33 IST

The residents alleged that though the drainage constructed 50 years ago was in good condition, the work has been taken up just to spend the grants. Poor quality box drainage is being constructed by removing the previous strongly-built structure. Quality cement has not been used in the work. Water is stagnating in the drainage due to slipshod work turning the drainage as a mosquito breeding ground.

The pipes supplying water too have been damaged. Water leaking from broken pipes is seeping into the foundation of old buildings, thus posing the danger of weakening the structure. Neither the engineer nor any officers concerned visit the spot as a result of which the poor quality of work has been proceeding unabated, they alleged. The residents demanded demolition of the newly-constructed poor-quality drainage and construction of a new strong structure.

The Assistant Commissioner said that the errors committed in executing the project would be rectified by the persons concerned.

A verbal duel ensued between the Assistant Commissioner and Town Municipal Council member T D Chandrashekhar following a comment by the latter on the officers.
Tahsildar T C Kantharaju, Town Municipal Council president C M Rangaswamy, Chief Officer Siddamurthy and others were present.
