With the fresh case being detected, the number of murder suspected to be committed by Kumar has gone up to 20.
The CID officials started verifying all cases of unnatural deaths of young women reported in South Karnataka between 2004-09. During such a verification, a case of unnatural death of a young woman in KSRTC bus stand in Bangalore on May 29, 2007 was noticed. The investigation established the identity of the deceased as Poornima (25) a resident of Bekur village, Kasargod taluk, Kerala state.
The police contacted Poornima’s sister who confirmed the identity with the help of a photograph.
The police have requested parents/guardians of young women who went missing in Mangalore, Udupi, Kodagu and Kasargod districts between 2004-09 to contact K P Bheemaiah, Superintendent of Police, H&B Squad, CID, Bangalore.
The South Canara police arrested Mohan Kumar in October last year.
