Mayor M J Ravikumar, on Monday, directed the officials concerned to vacate illegal shops near the Sub-Urban Bus Stand.

The mayor, issued the directions to the officials during the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Council meeting, here. Ravikumar said, many shopkeepers have established even permanent structures, violating MCC norms, and thus, the officials should take suitable measures to remove them.

Corporator P Prashanth Gowda said, “There are more than 60 illegal shops inside the bus stand itself. Due to this, passengers struggle to find some space to sit and relax.”

Tax collection

A corporator alleged that the MCC officials are not collecting service tax from government offices and urged the mayor to take measures to collect the revenue. “There are 165 government offices under MCC limits, and only 62 of them pay the taxes while the remaining do not pay the tax,” he said.

Corporator H N Srikantaiah urged the officials to submit a report on why the officials have failed to collect tax from government offices.

Respect people’s reps

Following a complaint from a few corporators that the officials neglect them as well as the works, Ravikumar warned the officials of initiating strict action if they fail to respect the corporators and if they fail to execute their work effectively.

Council at 11 am

The Corporators also urged the mayor to convene the council at 11 am from next month.

The Corporators said, if the meeting commence at 3 pm, as is the practice now, they don’t get sufficient time to discuss important issues and thus, the meeting should be held in the morning. The mayor assured to convene the meeting from 11 am from next month.
