A pro-Kannada body submitted a complaint to the Vidhana Soudha police against BMRCL managing director Pradeep Singh Kharola and Chief Secretary Subhash Chandra Khuntia for violating the two-language policy in Namma Metro.

The complaint by Kannada Anushthana Mandali argues that Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) comes under state Urban Development Department. Hence, the language in the signages should have been limited to Kannada, the official language of the state, and English for people coming from outside the state, it says.

“BMRCL has imposed Hindi on Kannadigas. This illegal move has angered pro-Kannada organisations and led to chaos and confusion. Action should be taken against the BMRCL MD as well as the chief secretary, who did not act against the former,” R A Prasad of the Mandali told reporters at Vidhana Soudha police station. He also urged the police to drop the cases registered against pro-Kannada activists who were booked for defacing the Metro signages.

“Please take action against those who are responsible for this provocation,” he said.
