Sometimes, food and fashion go hand in hand. These are days of experimentation and food is making inroads into day-to-day fashion. Food prints are becoming an in-thing now and youngsters in the city are sporting them with panache.

Trishla Jain, a student of J D Institute of Fashion Technology, points out that one’s love for food is coming out in various ways including apparel, footwear and jewellery. “These are becoming a rage,” she says.

And these are not limited to clothing, it has made its way to bags and phone covers as well. “Food-shaped bags were a trend started off by Chanel with milk carton-shaped handbags. Now these are available in local markets too. Brooches and even earrings have these prints,” she adds.

Adeline Fiona, an analyst with a bank, looks at these prints as an out-of-the-box expression. “Food prints are eye-catching. Moreover, they bring out one’s quirkiness and casual nature, especially when you wear a tee with prints of chillies or a burger,” she adds.

These printed outfits bring out the child in one, says Humerah Banu, a software engineer. “In the past, it was just the younger lot who would sport these, but now cute is considered fashionable. Many are pulling off casual office looks with tees or dresses in such prints. They work great for a casual Friday!”

she says. Teamed with a ripped or distressed pair of denim or hot pants, these make for a great choice for warm days, she points out. “These designs are versatile. Layering gives a sophisticated look,” she adds.

These prints are a big hit with food lovers like Amiroon Rahilah, a senior item data specialist. Amiroon who loves French Fries says, “Just like the saying ‘You are what you eat’, I love to wear my food. Jokes apart, I think these make for great go-to options when you don’t know what to wear for that gathering with friends or a casual day out,” she says.

Fashion stylist and designer Kriti Karnika, who loves working with bold designs observes that changing times demand changing styles. “From ice cream prints to pizza slices, the prints are diverse now, be it on shirts, overalls, leggings or even shorts. Fruit prints are very popular. While everyone might not be able to appreciate a bacon slice on their dress or tee, a bunch of cherries or a watermelon piece does make one look cute,” she explains.

So, what are you waiting for? It’s time for some delicious inspiration! Get ready to wear your favourite food.
