CISCE may introduce new assessment method

The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations is contemplating  introducing the assessment of the students for Classes V and VIII on the basis of a new curriculum, the government said on Thursday.

“The proposed assessment is not a board examination as contemplated under Section 30 of The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009,” Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Upendra Kushwaha said while replying to a written question in the Upper House.

Non-threatening

It is envisaged to be “a non-threatening diagnostic assessment”, unrelated to classroom academic scores so that no prior preparation on the part of the students is required, he said.
“The proposed assessment will in no manner be connected to promotion from one class to another. No concept of pass/fail will be involved in the assessment,” Kushwaha clarified.

Student-oriented

The assessment would be student-oriented and will be designed to assess the student’s understanding of the concepts based on the newly introduced curriculum, he added.

Replying to another question, the minister told Rajya Sabha that the National Council of Educational Research and Training has decided to incorporate the contents relating to Goods and Services Tax  Act and demonetisation in the existing chapters of various subjects, including economics, business studies, accountancy and political science at different stages.
