Urging the government to distribute title deeds to poor who are cultivating crops on government land, the district unit of Raitha Sangha staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office on Friday.

Along with other ‘Bhagyas’ offered by the state government, the government should provide ‘Bhoomi Bhagya’ and ‘Mane Bhagya’ for the poor, they urged.

Bhoomi Matthu Vasathi Hakku Vanchitara Horata Samithi district convener Nirvanappa said, “Land at Andanipura in 6th Hosakote of Kushalnagar hobli was meant to be distributed among the poor from Dalit community. In spite of the poor cultivating the land for several years, the government has handed over the land to a government department. The move to hand over the land to the government department should be suspended. The district administration should initiate measures to distribute land among 65 families.”

He urged the government to distribute sites for nomadic tribes from Gundurao Layout in Kushalnagar. Poor landless, who have been residing on Thermekadu paisari in Arji village and Neru in Somwarpet taluk, should be given with sites and title deeds, he demanded..

Hundreds of poor have been engaged in cultivating on paisari land in the district. However, title deeds have not been distributed to them so far. They do not have a permanent roof over their head, the protesters said.

The protesters accused the Revenue Department of delaying the process of distribution of sites among the poor.
