Extra security at Palace to check hawker menace

In order to create a healthy and friendly atmosphere for tourists visiting Mysuru Palace, the Palace Board has decided to depute additional security force in and around the Palace premises from August 10.

As many as 30 personnel from a private agency will be deputed to check hawkers near the Palace. Mysuru Palace Board Deputy Director T S Subramanya said that many a times, roadside vendors trouble tourists and thus the additional security force will be deputed from August 10. Though the police personnel are deputed on the Palace premises, they have failed to check hawker menace here.

The Mysuru Palace receives lakhs of tourists every month and the footfall is high during Dasara and the summer season.

According to sources, Deputy Commissioner D Randeep, also Executive Officer and member secretary of the Palace Board, had written a letter to the City Police to check the menace of hawkers. As there was no positive response, the Palace Board decided to hire personnel from a private security agency.

Subramanya said that the process of tenders has been completed and additional security will be in place for the convenience of tourists. The DD informed that the authorities had approached the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to provide security but they did not revert.

At present, the City Police has deputed personnel and an Assistant Commissioner to monitor the security. The Palace Board renews police security every year and also pays the police department for providing security.

A private security force is already in place at Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens.
