OBC leaders meet Rahul, seek share of poll tickets

Karnataka OBC leaders on Saturday pressed for a fair representation to their community leaders in distribution of party tickets in next year's Assembly elections in the state.

Participating in a meeting convened by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi here to ascertain the socio-economic status of Other Backward Classes in the southern states, Karnataka leaders also mentioned the programmes implemented by the Congress-ruled government for the welfare of OBCs.

At the meeting, which was also attended by OBC leaders of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Rahul said the ruling dispensation should take up welfare programmes for OBCs in the beginning of the term and not during the election period.

Karnataka's Minister for Planning and Statistics M R Seetharam, Women and Child Welfare Minister Umashree, legislators H M Revanna, Byrathi Basavaraj and Byrathi Suresh attended the meeting.
