In a major setback to the merger between two AIADMK warring factions in Tamil Nadu, a rebel group led by former chief minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) announced protest on August 18 against Edappadi K Palaniswami government over several issues.

Despite chief minister Palaniswami on Monday expressed confident that there would be united AIADMK very soon, OPS group is going ahead with the protest.

During the protest demonstration, the rebel group said it will target the ruling party over several issues including NEET confusion and drinking water crisis in the State.

Earlier, the protest was planned on August 10. However, it was postponed to August 18 since the OPS group could not obtain permission from the police in time.

Banners were also erected at several places announcing that the protest will be organised under the leadership of Panneerselvam and AIADMK Puratchi Thalaivi Amma praesidium chairman E Madhusudanan.

Recently, Rajya Sabha member V Maitreyan, one of the top honchos of the rebel faction, alleged that there was corruption in every department in the ruling AIADMK regime. His statement was also endorsed by Panneerselvam.
