After the raids by the Income Tax sleuths on the residences and offices owned by Energy Minister D K Shivakumar, prima facie it appears that he (Shivakumar) has amassed ill-gotten wealth. A 198-page detailed letter has been written to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely along with relevant documents seeking stern action against the minister, stated Samaj Parivarthan Samudaya chief S R Hiremath.

Informing this to media persons in Dharwad on Friday, he stated that the SPS and NCPNR had fought hard to dethrone mining baron Janardhan Reddy who had declared ‘Bellary Republic’ and the time has come for Mr shivakumar to face the music.

‘By setting up ‘Kanakpura Republic’, Mr Shivakumar has amassed huge wealth through illegalities and criminalities and the government should not let him loose. A high-level inquiry should be conducted against the Energy Minister,’ said Mr Hiremath.

He said, Mr Shivakumar is spoiling the democratic system and hence, the government should constitute a special investigation team to probe against the allegations levelled on the minister.

Mr Shivakumar episode should be a lesson for the other politicians not to indulge in any anti-democratic activities. Answering a query, Mr Hiremath said, owing to the moral responsibilities, Mr Shivakumar should step down immediately and face the probe.

Land grab
On land grabbing, Mr Hiremath stated that based on the points raised in the A T Ramaswamy Committee report formed by the Joint Legislature on government land grab in the State, the SPS had filed a petition at the Supreme Court and accordingly, the court had shifted all the land grab cases to a special court. In the report, it is said that more than 11 lakh acre government land has been grabbed by influential people and vested interests and have caused a huge loss to the State Ex-chequer. However, the State Government is not making any attempt to initiate measures to reclaim the lands, he regretted. Once again, the SPS would be appealing the court to start proceedings again
