This crank call to the Rashtrapati Bhavan received on March 28 with the caller claiming to be from Sonia Gandhi’s office is being probed by the police, official sources said on Thursday.
The staff at the Rashtrapati Bhavan’s telephone exchange gave another number to the male caller saying such calls are not entertained on the general telephone numbers.

The caller, who claimed to be calling from 10 Janpath — official residence of Gandhi — made a second call around 9 pm to the exchange on the same day asking the call be put through.

He was politely told again that the call cannot be put through and that he should leave the number and the call would be returned. This prompted the caller to use abusive language as he threatened to take up the matter at the highest level, the sources said. However, the exchange reported the matter to the police and as a precautionary measure, a call was made to 10 Janpath asking whether any call had been made from there. Gandhi’s office however denied such a call was made.

A complaint was made by the President’s office to the deputy commissioner of Police (Rashtrapati Bhavan) who forwarded the same to the special cell of Delhi police.
Police has summoned for the call records from MTNL during the time the call was made and were screening them but no breakthrough has been made so far.

Some calls were made from Public Call office in Noida and Gurgaon around the time when the two crank calls were made to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the sources said.
