Actor Samyukta Hornad believes in working at her own pace. While projects in the Kannada and Telugu film industry keep her on her toes, the young actor makes sure she also devotes enough time to pursue her other interests. These include dance and animal welfare initiatives in connection with several NGOs.

The actor, who is presently shooting for a Telugu project in Hyderabad, had two releases this week — ‘Kaafi Thota’ and ‘Maarikondavaru’. The actor has played contrasting characters in the two projects.

While she essays the role of a lawyer in ‘Kaafi Thota’, she slips into the character of a woman who is emotionally torn between two men in ‘Maarikondavaru’. “My role in ‘Kaafi Thota’ is a bold portrayal of the women of today. My character is that of a carefree and outgoing girl who doesn’t shy away from speaking her mind,” explains Samyukta.

“My character undergoes a transformation of sorts in the second half of the film. Situations change and she begins to take her work seriously. I enjoyed portraying different emotions,” she adds.

Asked about her experience of working in ‘Maarikondavaru’, Samyukta says that she was drawn to the script by the strong characterisation and the gripping narrative.

“I play a married woman who is sort of a slave of the circumstances. She has no voice of her own and is forced to toe the line by her husband,” she says. Talking about her character, Samyukta says it was tough but understanding and portraying the character opened her eyes to a lot of things that she didn’t know about life in a village.

“There were scenes where I had to walk barefoot and we didn’t really have enough toilet facilities. The villagers live like this and still remain happy. Living in such difficult situations made me understand and value the life we lead in the cities,” she says.

The actor also has ‘Dayavittu Gamanisi’ releasing in the first week of September.

“I play the character of an IT professional who has a mind of her own. My character is loud, ambitious and believes in doing what she thinks is good for her. But there’s also another shade to her. It’s a good contrast,” she adds.

The actor will also be seen riding a bike in the film.
