<p>The Congress high command on Friday announced former Union Minister C M Ibrahim as the party’s candidate to contest the Karnataka Legislative Council byelection scheduled for August 31.<br /><br />The seat fell vacant following the death of BJP’s Vimala Gowda in April.<br /><br />Her tenure was to end June 2018. <br /><br />Ibrahim is known to be a loyal Siddaramaiah supporter — they go back to their days in the Janata Parivar.<br /><br />Ibrahim’s candidature for the vacant MLC seat could mark his return to state politics since his 2013 defeat in the Bhadravathi constituency.<br /><br />Ibrahim was appointed deputy chairman of the state planning board after Siddaramaiah was unsuccessful in getting him into the Rajya Sabha or the Legislative Council.<br /></p>
