Woman bomber kills one in Russian village

Moscow subway suicide bomber Maryam Sharipova. Investigators confirmed that one of the two bombings on Moscow’s subway last week was carried out by the 28-year-old computer science teacher, whose father recognised a photo of her severed head. The other had been identified as Dzhanet Abdurakhmanova, the 17-year-old widow of an Islamic militant slain by government forces. AP

The incident in Ekazhevo village occurred when an anti-militancy operation was going on. Wearing a headscarf, the bomber, aged about 25, attempted to shoot the police chief, but missed him and injured another officer who succumbed to his injuries. After this, explosives tied to her body went off.

The attack comes amid fears that ‘Black Widows’ — blamed for last week’s Moscow Metro bombings that claimed 40 lives — may strike again.
