The BJP on Thursday demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should resign owning moral responsibility following charges of destruction of evidence in the death of DySP M K Ganapathi last year.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa charged that Siddaramaiah ensured that the CID gives a clean chit to his Cabinet colleague and Bengaluru Development Minister K J George in connection with the case.

Yeddyurappa recalled that Ganapathi, a day before his death, had told local media channels in Madikeri that if anything happens to him George and two senior officers, Pronab Mohanty and A M Prasad, will be responsible for it.

Death “cover-up”

A national channel had run a story on Wednesday about a “cover-up” with regard to Ganapathy’s death, the BJP leader added.

Yeddyurappa said George should be dismissed from the Cabinet and the Ganapathi case handed over to the CBI for investigation.

To meet Rajnath

He said a BJP delegation will meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on August 26 and apprise him of the need for a CBI probe into the issue.

The BJP will also launch a state-wide agitation if its demands are not met.

Former deputy chief minister R Ashoka charged that Siddaramaiah was trying to hush up charges of corruption against him by getting himself a ‘clean chit’ from the Justice Kempanna Commission constituted to probe charges of illegal denotification of parcels of land in Arkavathy Layout in Bengaluru, by successive governments.

Judicial probe

Ashoka pointed out that the BJP had accused Siddaramaiah of denotifying large tracts (541 acres) for monetary benefits in Arkavathy Layout and had demanded a CBI probe. However, Siddaramaiah had refused to hand over the investigation to the CBI. Instead, he announced a judicial probe in order to “hush up the charges,” Ashoka added.
