Sharad Yadav may lose RS membership

Last Updated 27 August 2017, 20:03 IST

The JD(U) on Sunday said it will take action against rebel leader Sharad Yadav on grounds of “indulging in anti-party activities” by attending RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s ‘BJP bhagao, Desh bachao’ rally in Patna.

According to JD(U) spokesman K C Tyagi, Yadav stands to lose his Rajya Sabha seat as well as his membership of the party.

Tyagi said the JD(U) will soon apprise Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu about Yadav’s anti-party activity and seek action against him under the anti-defection law.

“By attending Sunday’s rally, he (Yadav) has created a problem for his membership. We will soon apprise the Rajya Sabha chairman,” Tyagi told reporters here.

“According to the 10th Schedule (anti-defection law), on doing this he will lose his Rajya Sabha membership as well,” said Tyagi, who was once close to Yadav but has sided with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar since he dumped the grand alliance and joined the BJP.

In a letter to Yadav on Friday, Tyagi had said that his presence at the August 27 rally of the RJD in Patna will be considered that he had voluntarily quit the party.
