TCS to host state-level rural IT quiz for school students

Programme aims to prepare participants for digital future

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and the state department of IT, BT, Science and Technology are organising a Rural IT Quiz programme across six states for school students from class 8 to 12.

The Rural IT Quiz is an attempt to enhance knowledge in IT and increase awareness towards technology through a quizzing platform so as to inspire the young workforce who are the future of India. It is held in Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. The written elimination rounds will be conducted between August and November.

The state finals of the Rural IT Quiz will be held in Tumakuru (Karnataka), Gandhinagar (Gujarat) Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Jaipur (Rajasthan), Nagpur (Maharashtra) and Raipur (Chhattisgarh).

The winning team from these locations will take part in the national finals, which will be a part of the ‘BangaloreIT.biz 2017’, hosted by the department of IT, BT, Science and Technology in Bengaluru on November 17. The Karnataka statewide rounds will be held on September 7 while the district-level rounds will be conducted on September 22.

The Zonal-level quiz will take place in three locations — Dharwad (October 10), Mysuru (October 12) and Tumakuru (October 13). The Tumakuru Zonal finals will be followed by the Karnataka state finals in Tumakuru on October 13 itself.

Students of schools or PU colleges in the city corporation limits of Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Ballari, Davangere, Hubli-Dharwad, Belgavi and Kalaburagi cities are not eligible to participate. Schools and colleges outside city limits should contact either the DDPI or DDPU for participation.

The quiz will focus on application of technology across various sectors and aspects such as: the technology environment, the business, new trends and legends. Also areas where IT has made an impact — education, entertainment, books, multimedia, music.
