Injured Chandimal ruled out

Sri Lanka’s injury woes continued as Dinesh Chandimal, recalled into the one-day squad following an injury to opener Danushka Gunathilaka, was ruled out of the rest of the series after sustaining a hair-line fracture on his right thumb while batting in the third ODI against India here on Sunday.

Chandimal was struck hard on his right thumb as he tried to play down a rising Hardik Pandya delivery. The right-hander dropped down to the ground clutching his right hand and grimacing in pain. Play was held up for a while as the physio strapped his right palm and applied some magic spray. Though Chandimal continued to bat in pain, his struggle was apparent before he fell flicking Pandya for a 71-ball 36.

Later Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that the Test skipper will not be taking any further part in the ongoing ODI series. It further added that the timeline for recovery will be known after consulting a specialist in Colombo on Monday.
