Man stabbed for staring at gang, dies in hospital

A 21-year-old man was stabbed to death for staring at a group of men during Ganesh Chaturthi festivities in Hanumanthnagar on Sunday evening.

The deceased, identified as Ganesh, was a resident of Kalappa Block and a car driver, the police said.

According to the police, around 5 pm near Udaya Ravi studio in Srinagar, Ganesh stared at a gang and confronted them for teasing him. The gang of six to seven, headed by one Prithvi, had gathered in the locality for Ganesh Chathurthi festivities.

It was a petty argument and the group of youths, who were drunk, left the spot. Later, at around 7.30 pm, the gang returned to the spot and picked a quarrel with Ganesh and stabbed him before fleeing from the spot.

Neighbours and passersby rushed to Ganesh’s help and informed the police. They initially shifted him to Srinagar Nursing Home from where he was taken to Shekar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 8.50 pm, the police said.

Hanumanthnagar police registered a case ofmurder and picked up seven men for questioning.
