Traffic near Silk Board Jn to be hit in coming days

Last Updated 29 August 2017, 06:07 IST

Traffic near the Silk Board junction will be affected in the coming days as the service road will be partially closed for repair works ahead of the work on RV Road-Bommasandra Metro line.

The Madiwala traffic police said they were gearing up for busy days ahead and are apprehensive of traffic snarls at the busy junction infamous for its congestion.

“We have already put some conditions to the contractor engaged in Metro construction work. We have asked them to repair the service road before going ahead with their work,” police said.

Though the actual work is set to begin next month, traffic towards BTM Circle was affected in front of Silk Board as the contractors were clearing the trunk and remnant of a huge tree felled for the Metro line.

“The service road is choked in peak hours. We had to barricade a small portion of the road in front of Silk Board. Even that led to traffic jam,” police added.
They said once the work starts, traffic towards BTM Layout will be stopped after Rowsons Bar and diverted to 29th Main.

The police have told the contractor to make sure that the repaired service road will not see water logging. “Any hin drance to traffic on the stretch will have a major impact on vehicle movement. They have agreed to shift the utilities at the earliest and make sure the drains carry all the water during rains,” they said.

The RV Road-Bommasandra line, under Phase 2 of Namma Metro project, connects the IT hub in the south eastern part of the city. It is also crucial for the Silk Board-KR Puram line in Phase 2A. “As of now, the work will start between RV Road and Silk Board. They have not informed us of any work towards Bommasandra,” police added.
