Sidewalk styles

Streetwear is booming. Brands are taking their cue from sidewalks and are front and centre in a fashion industry where traditional show formats are falling out of favour.

Printed short-sleeved shirts

Hawaiian or floral, abstract or figurative, printed shirts are staple fare this season. Short-sleeved and cut oversized -- partly as a nod to the trend Kim Jones pioneered at Louis Vuitton a couple of years ago.

The popularity of this type of shirt isn‘t surprising. Worn buttoned up with a pair of chinos, or open over a white T-shirt, a printed short- sleeved shirt is pretty much an instant outfit that‘s eye-catching and mercifully low on effort. All of which means less time dressing, more time swanning around looking suave.

Slogan T-shirts

Once the preserve of Eurotrash, stag parties and every dad‘s holiday wardrobe, slogan and boldly branded T-shirts are no longer anathema to fashion. Wearing your political affiliations/sense of humour/brand loyalty on your chest is not only acceptable, it‘s de rigueur.

White

We would say the massive number of white T-shirts, shorts and trousers we spotted over the last few weeks was down to the colour‘s ability to keep you cool. Also white is an expensive colour to maintain, therefore wearing white will not only make you appear ‘elitist’ it will also keep you fresh in the humidity, even if it is only a degree or two.
The Cuban heel

Judging by a slew of vertically enhanced celebrities this year, it seems heels are on the rise again. Kanye West, Harry Styles and Justin Bieber are just three famous faces recently spotted in booster shoes of late. Fortunately, it‘s a stacked heel and not a stiletto that these fellas have been stepping out in. Now just because it‘s called a heel, doesn‘t make it Female! The ideal Cuban heel is an inch and a bit more. Wear this heel on an ankle boot or more formal lace ups, they work best with skinny jeans.

Retro sportswear

Unless you‘ve been living under a soundproof rock, you will already know that sportswear has been one of the biggest risers in menswear over the past couple of seasons. Key pieces include matching two-piece tracksuits, zip-up nylon jumpers and drawstring trousers, as well as burnt orange or tobacco brown chevron prints, in luxury fabrics with careful attention to detail.

Wide-legged pants

For the past few seasons, looser cuts and shapes -- whether that‘s on coats, hoodies or, indeed, trousers have been working their way from the runways to the mainstream. The more relaxed way of dressing, which started to be picked up by brands and retailers in 2016, is set to reach a peak over the next 12 months according to our expert style predictions.
