The work is slated to take ten days and the diversions will be in place till then. The replacement work along half-a-kilometre from BTS garage to Anjaneya Temple is part of the project undertaken to replace old pipelines along the entire  2.3-km stretch of Old Madras Road.

BWSSB Chief Engineer (Maintenance), Venkatraju said  the present project is expected to cost Rs 50 lakh. “The scheme will help plug leakages that are a regular occurrence along this stretch,” he said.  The existing pipes of 700-mm diametre will be replaced with pipes of similar dimensions but of much better quality.

Traffic Inspector at Indira Nagar, Rajendra said details on diversions have been worked out and boards will be displayed on Monday at various spots.  Managing traffic on Old Madras Road until the pipeline project concludes will be quite tough as the road usually has bumper-to-bumper traffic at all times of the day, particularly around the Anjaneya temple area to K R Puram railway station, the inspector added.

The traffic department is also planning to barricade one half of Old Madras Road to that vehicles can ply on one half while work can continue on the other half. “Vehicles heading towards K R Puram can be allowed to pass first and then opposing vehicles could be permitted to pass,” he added.
