VTU students will not see their score drop after revaluation

Engineering students applying for revaluation need not worry if they get fewer marks than in the original evaluation. The Visvesvaraya Technological Universtiy (VTU) will award them higher marks, whether they get them in the original evaluation or in revaluation.

This rule will apply to all undergraduate and postgraduate students under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) scheme, starting June-July 2017 examinations.

Until the last semester exams, the VTU considered the marks after revaluation as final, even if the student had scored better in the original evaluation.

Students’ score dropping after revaluation is not uncommon. Some even fail the exam. Many students do not apply for revaluation for the simple reason that it could drop their score. They had been urging the VTU to consider the higher marks — regardless of the original evaluation or revaluation.

The university’s Board of Studies accepted the demand at a meeting last month. Prof Satish Annigeri, Registrar (Evaluation), has issued the curricular notifying the changes.

The VTU will get the answer script evaluated by a third evaluator if the difference of marks between first evaluation and revaluation is more than 15 marks.

While allotting the final marks, the marks will be considered on the basis of the average of the nearest two marks. If the difference between the nearest two marks in the first, second and third evaluation is equal, then the average of the higher two marks will be considered.
