The Prisons Department on Tuesday rejected the parole application of V K Sasikala—the convicted AIADMK general secretary, on technical grounds.

Sasikala, a convict in a disproportionate assets case, has been in Parappanna Agrahara central jail since February. The Supreme Court had sentenced her to four years’ imprisonment.

Sasikala’s advocate had filed a emergency parole application seeking 15 days to visit her husband M Natarajan in Chennai who is suffering from liver and kidney failure.

Superintendent of Parpanna Agrahara central prison M Somashekar rejected the parole application on the grounds that the applicant had not enclosed an attested letter by a competent government officer certifying the health of the applicant’s husband. The officer directed her advocate to make fresh application with all details.

Sources in the prison department said that now Sasikala has to file a fresh application complete with all relevant documents, which will be scrutinised with the help of Tamil Nadu police. Once the fresh application is filed, it will be verified with the jurisdictional police. “It is going take some time,” Somashekar said.

Meanwhile, AIADMK members said that, they will file a petition before the High Court seeking directions to release Sasikala’s on emergency parole as soon as possible because her husband’s condition is critical.
